New York, NY (October 19, 2010) – Travel + Leisure announces the winners of its sixth annual Global Vision Awards, which honor companies and organizations that are making a difference in the traveler’s world, such as CityCenter in Las Vegas for its cutting-edge LEED-certified design, Micato Safaris for guaranteeing a lifetime of education for a child from Nairobi’s Mukuru slum for every safari it sells, and Accor hotels for addressing the uncomfortable issue of sex tourism. The 19 winners were chosen by an esteemed panel of seven judges, including Nobel-prize winning economist Dr. Joseph Stiglitz; model, designer, and goodwill ambassador for the World Health Organization Liya Kebede; and Oscar-winning documentarian (The Cove) Louie Psihoyos. The winners are recognized in five categories—conservation, sustainability, preservation, development, and leadership—and represent the latest and best examples of the power of travel as an engine of positive change.
The 2010 Global Vision Awards detail why each organization is worthy of the award and offer “Take the Trip” information allowing travelers to experience first-hand the local cultures that have benefitted from their collective efforts. The awards are featured now on www.travelandleisure.com and in the November issue of Travel + Leisure, on newsstands October 22.
