We recently stayed at the Hacienda San Jose and had an absolutely amazing time! What a wonderful place in the middle of nowhere... We found exactly what we were looking for: quite, peace, an amazingly restored Hacienda (not too much as some of the signs of time are very visible), great food and genuine people caring for the guests.
Our room was stunning. 6m high ceilings, large wooden doors, local furniture and decoration and a plunge pool in our private little garden that made us feel as if we were in the middle of the jungle. Everything was perfect. The room was cleaned twice a day and wonderfully prepared for the night. Also the bathroom was just stunning with a separate shower, toilet and a tub. The room and the bathroom were decorated daily with fresh flowers from the gardens.
We had the place to ourselves and wandered around the property a few times. They feature a wonderful spa with amazing therapists and the private pool at the presidential suite makes us want to come back soon to stay there for a few days. The library and the chapel are very beautiful! The pool is stunning, surrounded by jungle, very relaxing - we stayed there one entire day as it was so beautiful.
The staff was absolutely outstanding. They were nowhere to be seen, but when we needed them they were right there. We went to the pool one day and from nowhere someone appeared and prepared the sunbeds for us and asked whether we needed anything. The same was true for the restaurant. The wait staff was very discreet and it could have been awkward as we were the only guests one evening, but they were, again, invisible and available at the same time.
Food at the restaurant was stunning. They serve local dishes with a twist and everything we tried was just spectacular. Breakfast was a wonderful affair with egg dishes, freshly baked bread and pastries and large plates of fruit while dinner was impressive with amazing soups, fresh fish and delicious meat dishes. The wine list features mainly Mexican wines, but also a few imported ones - we found a delicious one that was reasonable priced.
It is hard to describe how amazing this stay was and we will for sure come back. This has probably been the best hotel experience I have had over the last years! Go, enjoy and relax...there is nothing else to do.
